Not long. When my daughter turned two, about a year ago, I started working with her in the kitchen. We fell in love with baking together. Sourdough was a natural progression of our efforts and I kept getting praise about my breads. One thing led to another and I decided to get my Cottage License and sell bread.
Great question — and the answer is: mostly, yes… with a little help and a lot of heart.
The majority of what you see on The Sage Dad site is handcrafted by me, right here in our home workshop and kitchen. Some of our items — especially the beautiful, practical ones — are made by my wonderful mom Marilyn or my father-in-law Ed, whose skills and support make this work possible.
That said, we also feature a small collection of curated goods — thoughtfully selected from like-minded makers and small businesses. These items are:
Whether it’s handcrafted here or sourced from a fellow artisan, you can trust that every item we carry is something we’d use in our own home — and often do.
We believe in thoughtful work, meaningful connection, and goods that are made to last.
That’s the heart behind everything we offer.
Most are nut-free, but some scones and sweet breads (like maple pecan) contain tree nuts. All are made in the same home kitchen, so we cannot guarantee cross-contact–free items. We do not use Peanuts or any items manufactured in a facility with Peanuts as Sage is also allergic to Peanuts.
🎒 The Story Behind Our Dadding Items
Where Heart Meets Hands-On Learning
As a dad, I found myself searching for ways to connect, teach, and create — not just in the big milestone moments, but in the quiet, ordinary ones.
Building towers with tiny hands. Practicing letters on wood. Tying shoelaces for the tenth time before breakfast.
That’s where our Dadding Line began — not with a grand idea, but with a handful of wooden shapes and a little girl named Sage, watching closely from the kitchen floor.
We believe in learning by doing, and letting children explore at their own pace. Inspired by Montessori values, our toys and learning aids are:
We’ve got nothing against tech—but we believe in giving children space to wonder without a screen.
Our Dadding items are designed to spark real-life moments between you and your child:
They’re not just toys — they’re invitations to engage, to slow down, and to show up.
Whether you’re a stay-at-home dad, weekend warrior, or bedtime storyteller, these tools are for you.
We know what it means to juggle work, worry, and wonder all at once — and still want to be the kind of dad your child remembers with joy.
So we build products that help you connect, teach with intention, and leave room for wonder.
Each item in our Dadding line is made by hand or thoughtfully sourced, with one mission in mind:
To turn small moments into lasting bonds.
Because that’s what “dadding” really is.
Not perfect. Not polished. Just present.
Just love — made real, one wooden toy at a time.
